Sharjah Architecture Trienniel
The beauty of impermanence: An Architecture of Adaptability
Location: Sharjah, UAE
Date: 2023
Work: Exhibition Design and Curation
Design by: Nipun Prabhakar and Sandeep Virmani
Collaboration: Aabhat
Collaborating with craftsmen, women, and artisans from different parts of India, we wove a narrative around the practice of Hunnarshala Foundation for the Sharjah Architecture Triennial. The idea was to transform the way we visualise architecture. Our exhibition design featured a textile panel, carefully embroidered by women of Kutch, depicting the story of earthquake rehabilitation through sustainable architecture.
Delving deeper into craftsmanship, we worked alongside leather shoemakers to craft an architectural model of a Sham-e-Sarhad resort entirely from leather, showcasing the versatility of traditional materials.
Another standout was a bespoke table, marrying a brick dome crafted by the artisans of Rohtak, Haryana, with a metal base.
To infuse the space with soulful resonance, we invited famous Folk singer, Shabnam Virmani who developed a custom folk song reflecting on the contemporary architectural landscape.
