Paani Perch

Terracotta pot, terracotta dish, bamboo, reused pallet wood
A single pole, two thirsty worlds. One side cradles a cool clay matka for people passing by; the other holds a shallow terracotta dish where sparrows and squirrels stop in for a sip.

Thirst is universal, so the stand plays host to everyone who drops by. One arm cradles a matka—an earthen pot that keeps water cool for passers‑by. The opposite arm carries a shallow terracotta dish where sparrows, mynas, and the occasional squirrel can drink or splash.
We kept the build as humble as its purpose. A single lathi pole forms the spine, braced by a base of reclaimed pallet wood. Small 3D‑printed sleeves slip over the pole to hold the matka and the bird pan; they twist off when either piece needs a wash or replacement. Nothing is glued shut or locked in for life.
The idea is simple: design as daily empathy. By setting two drinking spots at different heights, the stand turns a corner of the verandah into shared ground, reminding us that comfort and care don’t belong to humans alone.
